This Is Your Economy uses papermaking to make our digital economy tangible. Returning to physical bank notes, I employed their anti-counterfeit methods, watermarks, to authenticate my work with facts about our capitalist, digital economy. Backlighting the work allows these ‘hidden’ messages to be seen, and the physical labour of paper making to become obvious.

 

In making architectural structures from delicate, paper sheets, the paper becomes a monument that the viewer can enter. It is through this spacial immersion that I hope to make obvious the overwhelming scale of our capitalist economies and the resulting scale that their problems have.
